14|1|Alif, Lam, Ra. A Scripture that We revealed to you, that you may bring humanity from darkness to light—with the permission of their Lord—to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.
14|2|God—to whom belongs what is in the heavens and the earth. And woe to the disbelievers from a severe torment.
14|3|Those who prefer the present life to the Hereafter, and repel from the path of God, and seek to make it crooked—these are far astray.
14|4|We never sent any messenger except in the language of his people, to make things clear for them. God leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
14|5|We sent Moses with Our signs: “Bring your people out of darkness into light, and remind them of the Days of God.” In that are signs for every patient and thankful person.”
14|6|Moses said to his people, “Remember God’s blessings upon you, as He delivered you from the people of Pharaoh, who inflicted on you terrible suffering, slaughtering your sons while sparing your daughters. In that was a serious trial from your Lord.”
14|7|And when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks, I will grant you increase; but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is severe.”

H 1585, CH 28, h 6 A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ali ibn Ibrahim from his father all from Yahya ibn al-Mubarak from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jublah from Muáwiyah ibn Wahab from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has said, ‘To whoever three things are given he is not denied three things. To whoever prayer is given he is given acceptance to his prayer. To whoever thankfulness is given he is given increased favors. To whoever trust is given he is given protection.’ Then He said, ‘Have you read in the book of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, “Whoever places his trust in Allah, He provides him sufficient protection.” (14:7) “If you be thankful We will increase the favor. Pray to Me, I will accept your prayer.”’” (25:60)

14|8|And Moses said, “Even if you are ungrateful, together with everyone on earth—God is in no need, Worthy of Praise.”
14|9|Has not the story reached you, of those before you, the people of Noah, and Aad, and Thamood—and those after them? None knows them except God. Their messengers came to them with the clear proofs, but they tried to silence them, and said, “We reject what you are sent with, and we are in serious doubt regarding what you are calling us to.”
14|10|Their messengers said, “Is there any doubt about God, Maker of the heavens and the earth? He calls you to forgive you your sins, and to defer you until a stated term.” They said, “You are only humans like us; you want to turn us away from what our ancestors worshiped; so bring us a clear proof.”
14|11|Their messengers said to them, “We are only humans like you, but God favors whomever He wills from among His servants. We cannot possibly show you any proof, except by leave of God. In God let the faithful put their trust.”
14|12|“And why should we not trust in God, when He has guided us in our ways? We will persevere in the face of your persecution. And upon God the reliant should rely.”
14|13|Those who disbelieved said to their messengers, “We will expel you from our land, unless you return to our religion.” And their Lord inspired them: “We will destroy the wrongdoers.”
14|14|“And We will settle you in the land after them. That is for him who fears My Majesty, and fears My threats.”
14|15|And they prayed for victory, and every stubborn tyrant came to disappointment.
14|16|Beyond him lies Hell, and he will be given to drink putrid water.
14|17|He will guzzle it, but he will not swallow it. Death will come at him from every direction, but he will not die. And beyond this is relentless suffering.
14|18|The likeness of those who disbelieve in their Lord: their works are like ashes, in a fierce wind, on a stormy day. They have no control over anything they have earned. That is the utmost misguidance.
14|19|Do you not see that God created the heavens and the earth with truth? If He wills, He can do away with you, and bring a new creation.
14|20|And that is not difficult for God.
14|21|They will emerge before God, altogether. The weak will say to those who were proud, “We were your followers, can you protect us at all against God’s punishment?” They will say, “Had God guided us, we would have guided you. It is the same for us; whether we mourn, or are patient; there is no asylum for us.”
14|22|And Satan will say, when the issue is settled, “God has promised you the promise of truth, and I promised you, but I failed you. I had no authority over you, except that I called you, and you answered me. So do not blame me, but blame yourselves. I cannot come to your aid, nor can you come to my aid. I reject your associating with me in the past. The wrongdoers will have a torment most painful.”
14:22 Satan has no authority, as in no power to force anyone to do anything. He only invites, and humanity can either choose to follow him or reject him. This confirms humanities free will exists
14|23|But those who believed and did good deeds will be admitted into gardens beneath which rivers flow, to remain therein forever, by leave of their Lord. Their greeting therein will be: “Peace.”
14|24|Do you not see how God presents a parable? A good word is like a good tree—its root is firm, and its branches are in the sky.

H 1157, Ch. 108, h 80 A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn Sayf from his father from ‘Amr ibn Harith who has said the following: “Once I asked abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, about the words of Allah, the Most High: ‘. . . a blessed tree which has firm roots and branches rising up into the sky.’ (14:24) “The Imam said that the Messenger of Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, said, ‘The root is Amir al-Mu’minin Ali and the branches are ‘A’immah (Leaders with Divine Authority), recipients of divine supreme covenant, from their (Amir al-Mu’minin Ali and the Holy Prophet’s, recipients of divine supreme covenant) descendents and the knowledge of ‘A’immah stand for the fruits. Their faithful followers represent the leaves of such tree.’ The Imam then asked, ‘Is there anything else in the tree?’ I said, ‘No, there is nothing else there.’ The Imam then said, ‘By Allah, when a believer gives birth to a child a leaf grows in the tree and when a believer dies a leaf falls off the tree.’”

14|25|It yields its fruits every season by the will of its Lord. God presents the parables to the people, so that they may reflect.
14|26|And the parable of a bad word is that of a bad tree—it is uprooted from the ground; it has no stability.
14|27|God gives firmness to those who believe, with the firm word, in this life, and in the Hereafter. And God leads the wicked astray. God does whatever He wills.

H 4680, Ch. 86, h 10 A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Najran from ‘Asem ibn Humayd from abu Basir who has said the following: ”I heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, say, ‘When a person is placed in his grave, two angels come to him, one from the right, the other from the left, and Satan whose eyes are made of brass tands before his eyes. The two angels will ask, “What do you say about the man who lived among you?”’ The Imam then said, ‘This causes him a terrifying alarm. If a believing person, he says, “Are you asking about Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah?” The two angels will then say to him, “Rest to sleep without dreams therein.” They will make his grave spacious by nine yards. He then observes his seat in paradise.’ This is what Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has mentioned (in His Book), ‘Allah keeps the believers steadfast upon the firmly established word both in this and in the next life.’ (14:26) If he is an unbeliever, the two angels will ask, “Who is the man who appeared among you?” He will say, “I do not know.” The two angels will then leave him with Satan.’”

14|28|Have you not seen those who exchanged the blessing of God with blasphemy, and landed their people into the house of perdition?

H 565, Ch. 27, h1 Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla ibn Muhammad from Bistam ibn Murrah from Ishaq ibn Hassa’n from al-Haytham ibn Waqid from Ali ibn al-Husayn al-‘Abdi from Sa‘d al-’Iskaf from al-Asbagh ibn Nubatah from (Amir al-Mu’minin) Ali, recipient of divine suprem
e covenant, who has said the following: “What is wrong with people who changed the Sunnah (traditions) of the Messenger of Allah and deviated from his will? Do they not fear that severe suffering may befall them? He then recited the following verse of the Holy Quran: ‘Have you not seen (considered) those who changed the blessings (word) of Allah through disbelief and led their people to destruction? (14:28) They will suffer in hell. What a terrible place to stay!’ (14:29). He then said, ‘We are the “blessings” of Allah which He has granted to people. Through us succeed those who will be successful on the Day of Judgment.’”

H 568, Ch. 27, h4 Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Uwarma from Ali ibn Hassa’n from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Kathir who has said the following: “Once I asked abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, about the meaning of the following words of Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, ‘Have you not seen (considered) those who changed the blessings (word) of Allah through disbelief and led their people to destruction?’ (14:28) The Imam said, ‘It is a reference to all of Quraysh (a tribe) who exercised animosity toward the Messenger of Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, created wars against him and rejected his will about his successor.’”

14|29|Hell—they will roast in it. What a miserable settlement.
14|30|And they set up rivals to God, in order to lead away from His path. Say, “Enjoy yourselves; your destination is the Fire.”
14|31|Tell My servants who have believed to perform the prayers, and to give from what We have given them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there is neither trading nor friendship.

H 5695, Ch. 1, h 8 Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has made it compulsory on affluent people to pay the share of the needy people from their properties and the affluent people will not be praised unless they pay the share of needy people. This share is zakat. Paying zakat protects their lives and because of paying zakat, they are called Muslims. However, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has assigned other shares in the properties of the affluent people, which are other than zakat. This is what a man considers necessary to pay from his property as Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has mentioned in His book: ‘They are those who assign a certain share of their property (70:24) for the needy and the deprived (70:25).’ The ‘certain share’ is something other than zakat. It is what one considers necessary to pay to the needy. He must, however, o so according to his financial abilities and then pay what he has considered necessary. He may pay every day, every Friday or every month. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has also said, ‘The charitable men and women who give a virtuous loan to Allah will receive double from Him in addition to their honorable reward.’ (57:18) This also is something other than zakat. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has said again, ‘. . . My believing servants . . . spend for the cause of their Lord, both in private and in public, out of what We have given them. . . .’ (14:31) Assistance is a form of loan, borrowing a certain item or lending a helping hand are also of matters Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has made necessary and they are other than zakat. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has said, ‘Those who fulfill their promise to and covenant with Allah (13:20), who maintain all the proper relations that Allah has commanded them to maintain, who have fear of their Lord and the hardships of the Day of Judgment’ (13:21). Those who pay what Allah has made compulsory have fulfilled their duties and have paid thanks to Allah for His bounties in his properties. In this way he has thanked Allah for what Allah has granted him and has given him preference over others as wealthier than others and has given him the opportunity to fulfill his duty toward Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, and has helped him to do so.”

14|32|God is He Who created the heavens and the earth, and sends down water from the sky, and with it produces fruits for your sustenance. And He committed the ships to your service, sailing through the sea by His command, and He committed the rivers to your service.
14|33|And He committed the sun and the moon to your service, both continuously pursuing their courses, and He committed the night and the day to your service.
14|34|And He has given you something of all what you asked. And if you were to count God’s blessings, you would not be able to enumerate them. The human being is unfair and ungrateful.
14|35|Recall that Abraham said, “O my Lord, make this land peaceful, and keep me and my sons from worshiping idols.”
14|36|“My Lord, they have led many people astray. Whoever follows me belongs with me; and whoever disobeys me—You are Forgiving and Merciful.

H 14787 – Ibn Mahboub, from Abdullah Bin Ghalib, from his father Saeed Bin Al-Musayyab who said: I heard Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws saying that: ‘A man went to Amir-ul-Momineenasws and said, ‘Inform me, if youasws are knowledgeable, about the people, and about those who resemble the people, and about the Nasnaas’. So Amir-ul-Momineenasws said: ‘O Husaynasws, answer the man’. So Al-Husaynasws said: ‘As for your word, ‘Inform me about the people’, so weasws are the people, and that is what Allahazwj Says in Hisazwj Book: “[2:199] Then hasten on from the Place from which the people hasten on”, so it is the Rasool Allahsaww so hesaww is the onesaww about whom people should come forward. And as for your word, ‘Resembling the people’, so they are ourasws Shites, and they are ourasws friends, and they are from usasws, and that is what Ibrahimas said: “[14:36] then whoever follows me, he is surely of me, and whoever disobeys me”. And as for your words, ‘The Nasnaas’, so they are the vast majority’ – and heasws gestured by hisasws hand towards a group of the people, then said: ‘[25:44] They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path”. 14788- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَانِ بْنِ سَدِيرٍ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ حَنَانِ بْنِ سَدِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ (عليه السلام) عَنْهُمَا فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا الْفَضْلِ مَا تَسْأَلُنِي عَنْهُمَا فَوَ اللَّهِ مَا مَاتَ مِنَّا مَيِّتٌ قَطُّ إِلَّا سَاخِطاً عَلَيْهِمَا وَ مَا مِنَّا الْيَوْمَ إِلَّا سَاخِطاً عَلَيْهِمَا يُوصِي بِذَلِكَ الْكَبِيرُ مِنَّا الصَّغِيرَ إِنَّهُمَا ظَلَمَانَا حَقَّنَا وَ مَنَعَانَا فَيْئَنَا وَ آَانَا أَوَّلَ مَنْ رَآِبَ أَعْنَاقَنَا وَ بَثَقَا عَلَيْنَا بَثْقاً فِي الْإِسْلَامِ لَا يُسْكَرُ أَبَداً حَتَّى يَقُومَ قَائِمُنَا أَوْ يَتَكَلَّمَ مُتَكَلِّمُنَا

H 1016, Ch. 96, h 1 Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ibn ’Udhayna from Fudayl who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, recipient of divine supreme covenant, looked at the people perform Tawaf (walking around the Ka‘ba seven times) and said, ‘This is how they used to perform Tawaf in the times of ignorance (pre-Islamic era). What they are required to do is to perform Tawaf and come to us, declare their belief in our Wilayah (Leadership with Divine Authority), their love for us and express their support for us.’ The Imam then recited this verse of the Holy Quran. ‘Lord, fill the hearts of the people with love for them. . . .’” (14:37)

14|38|“Our Lord, You know what we conceal and what we reveal. And nothing is hidden from God, on earth or in the heaven.”
14|39|“Praise be to God, Who has given me, in my old age, Ishmael and Isaac. My Lord is the Hearer of Prayers.”
14|40|“My Lord, make me one who performs the prayer, and from my offspring. Our Lord, accept my supplication.”
14|41|“Our
Lord, forgive me, and my parents, and the believers, on the Day the Reckoning takes place.”
14|42|Do not ever think that God is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only defers them until a Day when the sights stare.
14|43|Their necks outstretched, their heads upraised, their gaze unblinking, their hearts void.
14|44|And warn mankind of the Day when the punishment will come upon them, and the wicked will say, “Our Lord, defer us for a little while, and we will answer Your call and follow the messengers.” Did you not swear before that there will be no passing away for you?
14|45|And you inhabited the homes of those who wronged themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We cited for you the examples.
14|46|They planned their plans, but their plans are known to God, even if their plans can eliminate mountains.
14|47|Do not ever think that God will break His promise to His messengers. God is Strong, Able to Avenge.

14|48|On the Day when the earth is changed into another earth, and the heavens, and they will emerge before God, the One, the Irresistible.

H 11304, Ch. 41, h 1 Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from (from Sulayman ibn Ja‘far) from Hisham ibn Salim from Zurarah who has said the following: “Al-Abrash al-Kalbiy once asked abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘On the day when the earth will be replaced with another earth.’ (14:48) He (the Imam) said, ‘It means that there will be purified bread for people to eat until Allah will clear the accounts.’ Al-Abrash has said, ‘I then said, “People on that day will already have other things to worry about instead of eating.”’ Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘If they in the fire will be eating al-Dari‘ (a terrible kind of food for those in hell) and drinking hot, filthy water in suffering instead of worrying about other things; they can also eat purified bread during the time their accounts are cleared.’”

14|49|On that Day, you will see the sinners bound together in chains.

14|52|This is a proclamation for mankind, that they may be warned thereby, and know that He is One God, and that people of understanding may remember.
