Al-Israa

17|1|Glory to Him who journeyed His servant by night, from the Sacred Mosque, to the Farthest Mosque, whose precincts We have blessed, in order to show him of Our wonders. He is the Listener, the Beholder.
17|2|And We gave Moses the Scripture, and made it a guide for the Children of Israel: Take none for protector other than Me.
17|3|The descendants of those We carried with Noah. He was an appreciative servant.
17|4|And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture: You will commit evil on earth twice, and you will rise to a great height.
17|5|When the first of the two promises came true, We sent against you servants of Ours, possessing great might, and they ransacked your homes. It was a promise fulfilled.
17|6|Then We gave you back your turn against them, and supplied you with wealth and children, and made you more numerous.
17|7|If you work righteousness, you work righteousness for yourselves; and if you commit evil, you do so against yourselves. Then, when the second promise comes true, they will make your faces filled with sorrow, and enter the Temple as they entered it the first time, and utterly destroy all that falls into their power.
17|8|Perhaps your Lord will have mercy on you. But if you revert, We will revert. We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.
17|9|This Quran guides to what is most upright; and it gives good news to the believers who do good deeds, that they will have a great reward.

H 564, Ch. 26, h2
Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Ibrahim
ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid from Musa ibn ’Ukayl al-Numayri from al-‘Ala’ ibn Sayyaba
from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the
following:
“About the words of Allah, the Most High, ‘This Quran shows
the way to that which is the most upright. . . .,’ (17:9) abu ‘Abd
Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, said, ‘It guides to
the Imam, recipient of divine supreme covenant.’”

17|10|And those who do not believe in the Hereafter—We have prepared for them a painful punishment.
17|11|The human being prays for evil as he prays for good. The human being is very hasty.
17|12|We have made the night and the day two wonders. We erased the wonder of the night, and made the wonder of the day revealing, that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and know the number of years, and the calculation. We have explained all things in detail.
17|13|For every person We have attached his fate to his neck. And on the Day of Resurrection, We will bring out for him a book which he will find spread open.
17|14|“Read your book; today there will be none but yourself to call you to account.”
17|15|Whoever is guided—is guided for his own good. And whoever goes astray—goes astray to his detriment. No burdened soul carries the burdens of another, nor do We ever punish until We have sent a messenger.
17|16|When We decide to destroy a town, We command its affluent ones, they transgress in it, so the word becomes justified against it, and We destroy it completely.
17|17|How many generations have We destroyed after Noah? Your Lord is sufficient as Knower and Beholder of the sins of his servants.
17|18|Whoever desires the fleeting life, We expedite for him what We decide to give him, to whomever We desire. Then We consign him to Hell, where he will roast, condemned and defeated.
17|19|But whoever desires the Hereafter, and pursues it as it should be pursued, while he is a believer; these—their effort will be appreciated.
17|20|To all—these and those—We extend from the gifts of your Lord. The gifts of your Lord are not restricted.
17|21|See how We have favored some of them over others; yet the Hereafter is greater in ranks, and greater in favors.
17|22|Do not set up another god with God, lest you become condemned and damned.
17|23|Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and that you be good to your parents. If either of them or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of disrespect, nor scold them, but say to them kind words.
17|24|And lower to them the wing of humility, out of mercy, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, as they raised me when I was a child.”
17|25|Your Lord knows best what is in your minds. If you are righteous—He is Forgiving to the obedient.
17|26|And give the relative his rights, and the poor, and the wayfarer, and do not squander wastefully.

H 5701, Ch. 1, h 14
A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from Malik ibn ‘Atiyyah from
‘Amir ibn Juza‘ah who has said the following:
“Once a man came in the presence of abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and appealed, ‘O abu ‘Abd
Allah, grant me a loan until I am able to pay back.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, asked, ‘Do you
want to borrow until the time you harvest your plantation?’ The man answered, ‘No, by Allah, (I do
not have any plantation).’ The Imam then asked, ‘Do you want until you make a business gain?’ He
replied ‘No, by Allah, (I do not have any business).’ The Imam then asked, ‘Do you want to borrow
until you receive profit from a contract you have made?’ He replied, ‘No, by Allah, (I do not have any
such contract)’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘You then are of those for whom Allah
has set a share in our properties.’ He then asked to bring for him a bag with dirhams in it. He then
picked up a handful of money there-from and gave it to him saying, ‘Observe piety before Allah. Do
not spend it extravagantly or miserly but spend it in a balanced manner. Spending in a wasteful
manner is extravagance and Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, forbids it, “Do not squander
your belongings wastefully. . . (17:26)’”

17|27|The extravagant are brethren of the devils, and the devil is ever ungrateful to his Lord.
17|28|But if you turn away from them, seeking mercy from your Lord which you hope for, then say to them words of comfort.
17|29|And do not keep your hand tied to your neck, nor spread it out fully, lest you end up liable and regretful.

the arabic phase “yad” meaning hands refers to your power or generosity

H 6190, Ch. 40, h 6
Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Umar ibn Yazid who has said the following:
“This is about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, ‘You must not make your
hands tied up to your neck nor open it excessively so you remain blame-worth and tied up.’ (17:29)
Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ‘Mahsur (tied up) means severe austerity.’”

17|30|Your Lord expands the provision for whomever He wills, and restricts it. He is fully Informed, Observant of His servants.
17|31|And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them, and for you. Killing them is a grave sin.

Abortion is wrong if the intention is to avoid suffering, as killing is morally worse than suffering. Also the principle of “ends justify the means” is unacceptable.

17|32|And do not come near adultery. It is immoral, and an evil way.
17|33|And do not kill the soul which God has made sacred, except in the course of justice. If someone is killed unjustly, We have given his next of kin certain authority. But he should not be excessive in killing, for he will be supported.
17|34|And do not go near the orphan’s property, except with the best of intentions, until he has reached his maturity. And honor your pledge, because the pledge involves responsibility.
17|35|And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with accurate scales. That is fair, and the best determination.
17|36|And do not occupy yourself with what you have no knowledge of. The hearing, and the sight, and the brains—all these will be questioned.

H 1510, CH 15, h 2
A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid
from his father. And Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn
Muhammad ibn ‘Isa all have narrated from al-Barqi from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd
from Yahya ibn ‘Imran al-Halabi from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn al-Hassan from al-
Hassan ibn Harun who has said the following:
“Once abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant,
said to me, ‘It is of certainty that the ears, eyes and heart will all
be questioned.’(17:36) He said, ‘The ears will be questioned
about what they have heard, the eyes will be questioned about
what they have looked upon and the heart will be questioned
about what it has established as belief.’”

H 12057, Ch. 25, h 10
Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Ziyad who has said the following:
“Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when a man said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul
and the souls of my parents in service for your cause, I enter my WC (water-closet) and I have
neighbors who have singing slave-girls who play musical instruments and perhaps I sit longer,
listening to them.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not do so.’ The man said, ‘By Allah, I do not go to
them; it is only my listening to them with my ears.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘For the sake of Allah, have
you not heard Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, saying, “…the ears, eyes, and hearts will all be
held responsible for their deeds.” (17:36)’ He replied, ‘Yes, by Allah, as if I have not heard this verse
of the book of Allah from non-Arab or Arab people. However, I will not return to it if Allah so wills
and I ask forgiveness from Allah. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must go and take a shower, then ask what
you want, because you were involved in a great thing and how terrible your condition could have been
had you remained in such condition! Praise Allah and ask Him to forgive you because of what He
dislikes and He dislikes only bad and indecent matters; and you must leave evil and indecent things to
indecent people; everything has its associates.’”

17|37|And do not walk proudly on earth. You can neither pierce the earth, nor can you match the mountains in height.

dont be arrogant, there is a vast world below you, and above you, we are not as big or as strong as a mountain. Nor can we even dive into the Earth like a worm. We have certain abilities and others are different, and the only meaningful rank is that of piety, or submission to Allah.

17|38|The evil of all these is disliked by your Lord.
17|39|That is some of the wisdom your Lord has revealed to you. Do not set up with God another god, or else you will be thrown in Hell, rebuked and banished.
17|40|Has your Lord favored you with sons, while choosing for Himself daughters from among the angels? You are indeed saying a terrible thing.
17|41|We have explained in this Quran in various ways, that they may remember, but it only adds to their rebellion.
17|42|Say, “If there were other gods with Him, as they say, they would have sought a way to the Lord of the Throne.”
17|43|Be He glorified. He is exalted, far above what they say.
17|44|Praising Him are the seven heavens, and the earth, and everyone in them. There is not a thing that does not glorify Him with praise, but you do not understand their praises. He is indeed Forbearing and Forgiving.
17|45|When you read the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an invisible barrier.
17|46|And We drape veils over their hearts, preventing them from understanding it, and heaviness in their ears. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn their backs in aversion.
17|47|We know well what they listen to, when they listen to you, as they conspire, when the wrongdoers say, “You only follow a man bewitched.”
17|48|Note what they compared you to. They are lost, and unable to find a way.
17|49|And they say, “When we have become bones and fragments, shall we really be resurrected as a new creation?”
17|50|Say, “Even if you become rocks or iron.
17|51|Or some substance, which, in your minds, is even harder.” Then they will say, “Who will restore us?” Say, “The One who originated you the first time.” Then they will nod their heads at you, and say, “When will it be?” Say, “Perhaps it will be soon.”
17|52|On the Day when He calls you, you will respond with His praise, and you will realize that you stayed only a little.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from
‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Najran and ibn Faddal from certain individuals of our
people from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said
the following:
“For an ailment the Imam, recipient of divine supreme
covenant, would say, ‘O Lord, You have criticized certain
nations saying, “(Muhammad), tell them, ‘Seek help from those
whom you consider equal to Allah. They are not able to remove
or change your hardships’” (17:56) O the One besides whom no
one is able to provide me relief or divert the hardships away
from me, confer al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his
family, grant me relief and divert the suffering from me to those
who worship things other than You.’”

17|57|Those they call upon are themselves seeking means of access to their Lord, vying to be nearer, and hoping for His mercy, and fearing His punishment. The punishment of your Lord is to be dreaded.

calling to other than Allah is not acceptable. The issue though is what is the call? obviously this is not the call for a taxi to pick me up, nor to my wife to pass me the salt. That type of call is not a problem. So what call is a problem? where forgiveness is asked?

17|61|When We said to the angels, “Bow down before Adam,” they bowed down, except for Satan. He said, “Shall I bow down before someone You created from mud?”

17|62|He said, “Do You see this one whom You have honored more than me? If You reprieve me until the Day of Resurrection, I will bring his descendants under my sway, except for a few.”

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid
from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from ‘Umar ibn ‘Udhaynah from Aban ibn abu ‘Ayyash
from Sulaym ibn Qays from Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib, recipient of
divine supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah has made paradise
unlawful for every abusive, immoral, and (persons) lacking
bashfulness who is not concerned about what he says or what is
said to him. If (investigated) you find him to be an straying
person or a partner of Satan.’ It was asked, O Messenger of
Allah, ‘Does Satan become a partner of people?’ the Messenger
of Allah said, ‘Have you not read the words of Allah, the Most
Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘ . . . share them in their properties and
children. . . .’ (17:64)
“The narrator has said that a man then asked a one learned in the
law (the Imam), ‘Is there among the people anyone who is not
concerned about what he says or what is said about him?’ The
Imam said, ‘One who disturbs people and abuses them knowing
that people do not leave him without a response, such a person is
the one who is not concerned about what he says or what is said
about him.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-
Rahman from Hammad from ‘Abd al-A‘la’ who has said the following:
“I heard Imam abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme
covenant, saying, ‘Listening and obeying are the gates to
goodness. One who listens and is obedient has all the authority
in his favor. One who listens but disobeys will have no authority
in his favor. The leader, the Imam of the Muslims, on the Day of
Judgment, in the presence of Allah, the Most Holy, the Most
High, will have complete authoritative support and rightful
arguments in his favor against disobedient people.’ He (the
Imam), recipient of divine supreme covenant, then said, ‘Allah,
the Most Holy, the Most High, says, ‘On the day when We call
every nation with their Imam (leaders) . . .’” (17:71)

H 561, Ch. 25, h1
Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from
al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ghalib from Jabir from abu Ja‘far,
recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“When the following verse of the Holy Quran was revealed,
‘On the day when We will call every nation with their leaders
(Imam) . . .’ (17:71), people asked the Messenger of Allah,
recipient of divine supreme covenant, ‘Are you not the Imam of
all the people altogether?’ The messenger of Allah, recipient of
divine supreme covenant, said, ‘I am the Messenger of Allah to
all the people but after me there will be ‘A’immah from my
family for the people. They will rise among the people but they
will be rejected. The leaders of the unbelievers and misguidance
and their followers will do injustice to them. Those who support,
love, follow, and acknowledge their authority, are from me, they
are with me and will meet me. People must know that whoever
will do injustice to ‘A’immah, recipient of divine supreme
covenant, and reject them is not from me and is not with me. I
denounce them and I have no associations with them.’”

Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-
Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from ‘Abd Allah

“Once I asked abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme
covenant, about the meaning of, ‘On the Day when We will call
every nation with her Imam (leader) . . .’ (17:71)
“The Imam then said, ‘It refers to the Imam who is with them
and he is al-Qa’im of the people of that time.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id who has narrated from al-Qasim ibn
Muhammad, from Ali ibn abu Hamzah, from abu Basir, who has said the following:
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the
Most Glorious, ‘One who is blind in this life in the next life will also be blind and in much more
straying.’ (17:72) He (the Imam) replied, ‘He is one who procrastinates in performing al-Hajj, which
is Hajjahta al-Islam, until death takes him away.”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Ali
ibn al-Hakam from ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of
divine supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“The Holy Quran was revealed in a manner like, ‘I speak to
you, but it is the neighbor who must listen.’”
It is narrated, in another Hadith, from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine
supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“The meaning of ‘I speak to you, but it is the neighbor who
must listen’, is that whenever Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most
Holy, has addressed His prophet in critical expressions they, in
fact, are addressed to others and not the Holy Prophet such as:
‘Had We not strengthened your faith you might have relied on
them some how,’ (17:74) is addressed to others (not the Holy
Prophet).’”

Muhammad ibn ‘Isa and Muhammad ibn `Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has
said the following:
“I once asked abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about how much of Salat (prayer) Allah, most Majestic,
most Glorious, has made obligatory. He (the Imam) said, ‘During one day and night five Salat (prayer)
are made obligatory.’ I then asked, ‘Has He named and explained them in His book?’ He (the Imam)
said, ‘Yes, Allah, most High has said to His Holy Prophet, “Perform Salat (prayer) after the sun
declines to the west, on midday until the darkness of the night.” (17:78).The sun declines on midday.
There are four Salat (prayer) between midday and the darkness of the night. Allah has named,
explained and timed them. Darkness of night is in midnight. He, most Blessed, most High has then
said, “. . . and the recitation (performing Salat (prayer)) at dawn and recitation at dawn was witnessed
(attended by the angels of the day and those of the nights).” These are five Salat (prayers). Allah, most
High about this issue has said, “Perform Salat (prayer) on both ends of the day, [which is sunset and
morning], and in a part of the night.” (11:116) This is al-‘Isha’ Salat (prayer) He, most High has said,
“Preserve Salat (prayer) especially the middle Salat (prayer).” (2:239) Middle Salat (prayer) is al-
Zuhr Salat (prayer) which is the first Salat (prayer) the Messenger of Allah performed. It is in the
middle of two Salat (prayer) during the day, the morning and al-‘Asr Salat (prayer). In some of the
recitations it is said, “Preserve Salawat (prayers) and the middle Salat (prayer).” Middle Salat (prayer)
is al-‘Asr Salat (prayer).’ About the words of Allah, “Stand up praying before Allah,” he (the Imam)
said, ‘This verse was revealed on Friday when the Messenger of Allah was on a journey. The
Messenger of Allah prayed before Allah on Friday and left it in that condition during a journey or
when at home. For those at home he added two Rak‘ats. He reduced two Rak‘at which the Holy
Prophet, had added on Friday for people when at home, because of the two sermons which a prayer
leader delivers. Those who perform Friday prayer without congregation, they perform it four Rak‘at
like al-Zuhr Salat (prayer) in other days.’”

from Isma’il ibn Mehran from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from abu Basir who has said the
following:
“I asked abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant,
‘Is there a limit for the expression of thankfulness, upon which a
servant is considered a thankful one?’
“The Imam said, ‘Yes, there is a limit.’ I then asked, ‘What is
that limit?’ The Imam said, ‘One must thank Allah for every
favor that He has done, such as family and properties. If on the
property one has received there is a certain right it must be paid
off as is mentioned in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the
Most Holy, quoting certain people, “Glory belongs to Him who
has made it subservient to us when we were not able to do so
ourselves.” (43:13) He, the Most High, has also said quoting
certain people, “Lord, grant us a blessed landing from the Ark;
You are the One who provides the safest landing” (23:29). Allah
has also said, “(Muhammad), say, ‘Lord, make me enter through
a path that will lead to the Truth and come out of an exit that
will take me to the Truth. Grant me supportive authority.’”’”

following:
“Abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has
said, ‘People of hell will remain in hell for ever because of their
intention in this world to disobey Allah even if they lived here
forever. People of paradise will live therein forever because of
their intention in this world to worship Allah even if they lived
here forever. Because of intentions these and those will remain
therein forever. The Imam then recited the words of Allah, “Say,
everyone does as he intends (shakilah). . . . ,” (17:84) the Imam
said, ‘It (Shakilah) means intention.’”

H 1141, Ch. 108, h 64
Ahmad has narrated from ‘Abd al-‘Azim from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from
abu Hamza from abu Ja‘far, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said
the following:
“Jibril brought this verse as: ‘. . . but most human beings turn
away [from Wilayah, Leadership with Divine Authority of Ali,
recipient of divine supreme covenant] in disbelief.’ (17:89)
“Jibril also brought this verse as: ‘Say, Truth comes from your
Lord, [About Wilayah, Leadership with Divine Authority of Ali,
recipient of divine supreme covenant]. Allow people to believe
or disbelieve it as they choose. For the unjust [to the family of
Muhammad, recipient of divine supreme covenant] We have
prepared a fire. . . .,’ (18:29) the Imam explained.”

17|90|And they said, “We will not believe in you unless you make a spring burst from the ground for us.
17|91|Or you have a garden of palms and vines; then cause rivers to gush pouring through them.
17|92|Or make the sky fall on us in pieces, as you claim, or bring God and the angels before us.
17|93|Or you possess a house of gold. Or you ascend into the sky. Even then, we will not believe in your ascension, unless you bring down for us a book that we can read.” Say, “Glory be to my Lord. Am I anything but a human messenger?”
17|94|Nothing prevented the people from believing, when guidance has come to them, except that they said, “Did God send a human messenger?”
17|95|Say, “If there were angels on earth, walking around in peace, We would have sent down to them from heaven an angel messenger.”
17|96|Say, “God is enough witness between you and me. He is fully aware of His servants, and He sees them well.”
17|97|Whomever God guides is the guided one. And whomever He leaves astray—for them you will find no protectors apart from Him. And We will gather them on the Day of Resurrection, on their faces, blind, dumb, and deaf. Their abode is Hell; whenever it abates, We intensify the blaze for them.
17|98|This is their repayment for having blasphemed against Our revelations, and having said, “Shall we, when we have become bones and fragments, be resurrected as a new creation?”
17|99|Do they not consider that God, Who created the heavens and the earth, is Able to create the likes of them? He has assigned for them a term, in which there is no doubt. But the wrongdoers persist in denying the truth.
17|100|Say, “If you possessed the treasuries of my Lord’s mercy, you would have withheld them for fear of spending.” The human being has always been stingy.
17|101|We gave Moses nine clear signs—ask the Children of Israel. When he went to them, Pharaoh said to him, “I think that you, Moses, are bewitched.”
17|102|He said, “You know that none sent these down except the Lord of the heavens and the earth—eye openers; and I think that you, Pharaoh, are doomed.”
17|103|He resolved to scare them off the land, but We drowned him, and those with him, altogether.
17|104|After him, We said to the Children of Israel, “Inhabit the land, and when the promise of the Hereafter arrives, We will bring you all together.”
17|105|With the truth We sent it down, and with the truth it descended. We sent you only as a bearer of good news and a warner.
17|106|A Quran which We unfolded gradually, that you may recite to the people over time. And We revealed it in stages.
17|107|Say, “Believe in it, or do not believe.” Those who were given knowledge before it, when it is recited to them, they fall to their chins, prostrating.

H 5048, Ch. 29, h 6
Ahmad ibn Muhammad from through the chain of his narrators has said the following:
“Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about the case of one on whose forehead there is
something because of which he is not able to perform Sajdah (prostration) on it. He (the Imam) said,
‘He places his chin on the ground; Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has said, “They fall down on
their chins prostrating.”’” (17:107)

17|108|And they say, “Glory to our Lord. The promise of our Lord is fulfilled.”
17|109|And they fall to their chins, weeping, and it adds to their humility.
17|110|Say, “Call Him God, or call Him the Most Merciful. Whichever name you use, to Him belong the Best Names.” And be neither loud in your prayer, nor silent in it, but follow a course in between.

H 4973, Ch. 21/22, h 21
It is a narration from him (narrator of previous Hadith) by Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said
the following:
“I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most
Glorious, ‘Do not be loud in your Salat (prayer) nor very quiet.’ (17:110) He (the Imam) said, ‘Quiet
is when you do not hear it, and loud is when you raise your voice very loud.’”

17|111|And say, “Praise be to God, who has not begotten a son, nor has He a partner in sovereignty, nor has He an ally out of weakness, and glorify Him constantly.”
