This is the top 7 things that are commonly assumed about Islam, but completely false.
Misconceptions about Islam
1. If you eat halal meat you will turn into a Muslim.
A politician recently made this embarrassing mistake. Michael Ohman, the head of the nationalist party’s Heby wing told the Sala Allehanda newspaper that, “You become a Muslim if you eat halal meat,” the Local cited him as saying. When asked by a reporter if he meant to say that halal meat had magical powers, Ohman responded by saying, “Yes. This is precisely what we have warned of. They sneak halal in everywhere.”
2. Muslim women sleep in their hijab (head cover).
Contrary to popular belief, Muslim women only need to dress modestly in front of men who are not their close family or husband.
3. Muslim women are all submissive and rarely leave the house.
Many Muslim men will laugh at this misconception, but often not in front of their wives! who are far from submissive softies. Muslim women are in fact just like any other women and therefore go to school, work, play sports just like everyone else, with the exception that they dress modestly.
4. Muslims don’t believe in Jesus or any of the Prophets.
Muslims actually believe in all of the previous Prophets, from Adam to Jesus, may God bless them all.
5. Islam is forced onto people.
Islam can only be entered to willingly and freely and there is a famous expression from the Muslim holy book, the Quran, “there is no compulsion in religion”.
6. Only brown or black people are Muslims.
Islam is not a race or associated with any one country or people. There are Muslims of every color, creed and nationality.
7. Sikhs are the same as Muslims.
Sikhs are people who follow the Sikh religion which hails from India. Their traditional head dress, called a turban is similar to that of some Muslim men, but the faiths are quite different.
